SAM FISH MURAL

September 2019

MEET THE ARTIST

Meet Allston’s own, Sam Fish, who will be painting the second garage door at Zone 3 this September. Sam grew up skateboarding around the area which inspired his early creative endeavors like drawing, writing, and painting. Allston provided him with an invigorating environment that acted as a catalyst for further creative exploration. His work sets out to carry you places, urge you to move, collaborate, and take risks. Influenced by traditional folk painting, underground skate and grati culture, and contemporary graphic design— Fish’s characters and objects move with speed, breaking through to new levels of awareness, having fun along the way.

ABOUT THE MURAL

ROCK CITY

This mural is an ode to Allston. A call to keep it thriving. To keep it in the streets. In the basements. A celebration of one of Boston’s best creative hubs.

Q&A WITH THE ARTIST

Tell us a little about your background and training?

No formal ‘training’. Just  have always tried to draw and paint on everything I could get my hand on.

HOW DID YOU GET STARTED DOING MURALS?

Painting on bigger surface is more of a challenge. It’s all part of the progression. It’s more physical. You sweat and there’s adrenaline.

What influences your work?

My own experiences and process.. Skateboarding. Tattooing. Traveling. The city. Humans.

What is the process that goes into YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS?

I usually draw something small first. Then it get’s bigger if I like it.

What do you do when you hit a creative roadblock?

Just run it over. Push through it. There’s no such thing. Keep going. Don’t stop.
