ARTIST Q&A

Born: Providence, RI

Currently lives: Allston, MA

Title of artwork: After-School

What’s it about? This piece was painted in plein-air at the West End Boys & Girls club in Allston, over by Ringer Park. Something about the architecture reminded me of schools I had attended growing up in Attleboro, MA. The slab concrete combined with vivid red framing, and reflective glass all felt familiar as a set of textures – yet also abstract in its arrangement. The title came naturally: After-school.

Where else can we find your work? New American Paintings Issue 134, and hopefully in a physical gallery coming soon.

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area? The mural by ProBlack and the GoFive crew over on the greenway wall by South Station.

Who is your favorite Boston-area artist to follow?Christian Restrepo @ch_restrepo

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off? The studio is my favorite activity haha.

What was your top song for 2022? “I Did the Best I Could” by Jim-E Stack

Favorite food spot in in Allston, Brighton or the surrounding area? Garlic & Lemons in Allston

What have you learned about your creative practice in recent years? I’ve learned to trust in making new things even when I feel creatively lost, and that the answers will come in time. It takes a volume of ideas in order to find anything interesting.

What is a piece of advice you would give to your past self as a young artist? To always make the things that make me uncomfortable.

What is your dream project to work on? I’m dreaming and working towards a solo presentation. I have a vision that I’m dedicated to; of the work coming together in one place.
