BRENDAN FLAHERTY

Brendan is a 33 year old degenerate living in Jamaica Plain who learned how to surgically remove pictures from magazines and piece them together to form funny/cool collages.

Brendan started collaging during the pandemic and found he had a knack for the craft.
He has sold his originals/prints at pop up art markets and just recently started pressing his creations onto shirts & tote bags.

Brendan also has the best cat ever created named Herbie and it is not up for debate so no further questions, please & thank you.

ARTIST Q&A

Born: Boston, MA

Currently lives: Jamaica Plain

Title of artwork: “Off The Hook”

What’s it about? I listen to a lot of southern rap. One of the songs I loved when I was a young warthog was “Still Tippin” by Slim Thug featuring Mike Jones.

I found the fur jacket body first and then the tiger skin rug. The hat is what made it feel like that song to me because Slim Thug is from Houston, TX. The fish head makes the whole collage feel like overcoming hardship. The fish is stepping on a dead tiger which is an alpha predator. It somehow survived long enough to evolve and rock a fur coat and boots. The blood spilt is what it took to get there.

Where else can we find your work? Postcards of my collages are at the vintage clothing store Diversity in Jamaica Plain. I have also made stickers that I’ve slapped on random things around the city.

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area? “Breath Life Together” by Rob ‘ProBlak’ Gibbs

Who is your favorite Boston-area artist to follow? @missmishhmash

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off? Headphones on, hammock by Jamaica Pond, skipping rocks on said pond.

What was your top song for 2023? Matinee by Smino

Favorite food spot in in Allston, Brighton or the surrounding area? Ganko Ittetsu Ramen before seeing a movie at Coolidge Corner Theater.

What have you learned about your creative practice in recent years? Taking my time and not finishing a project in one day. Marinating on different ideas or discovering other pieces I can add to the collage.

What is a piece of advice you would give to your past self as a young artist? Do not give 30% to a bunch of separate projects. Instead, give one of them 100% of your time before moving to the next.

What is your dream project to work on? Making album covers for musical artists.
