Title of artwork: I Just Really Love Tomatoes

What’s it about? I loved the idea of an at-a-glance calendar, and considered the different ways to show time passing. I finally chose tomatoes partly because of the unique way they ripen, but mostly because they are my fave food and they are cute! I drew a majority of the illustration using graphite and ink and finished it digitally.

Where else can we find your work? I post mostly on my instagram, but am also on twitter/X @sopharium. Every now and then I sell my work in person at various shows.

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area? I love the giant long mural near the Allston Trader Joes. I pass by it nearly everyday on my way to work and its so colorful and bright! I also love all the stickers you can find on signs and street lamps around town.

Who is your favorite Boston-area artist to follow? Amy Mendelsohn/@coopsy.art on Instagram!

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off? When I have a day off from drawing for work, I am drawing for fun. I love working on my personal projects and being indulgent. Other than that, I love reading graphic novels and playing weird PS2 games.

What was your top song for 2023? Taste by Gravedweller. They are a band from Texas and they rule… please listen and support!!

Favorite place for food in the Allston/Brighton area? This is a truly impossible question… but if I had to choose it’d be Kimchipapi Kitchen. Or maybe Turkish Lazuri Cafe.

What have you learned about your creative practice in recent years? That the most successful piece is one you’ve enjoyed doing. Having fun is key

What is a piece of advice you would give to your past self as a young artist? To not overthink it!!!

What is your dream project to work on? I would seriously die to illustrate a book about fairy tales or medieval fantasy!!! I also think it’d be fun to illustrate gig posters for bands (hit me up…?)
