Working from her home studio in Boston, Sarah creates art using watercolor, gouache, and ink. With a love of details and vibrant colors, she draws everything from house and building portraits to food illustrations and turns them into prints, greeting cards, stickers, calendars, and more.

ARTIST Q&A

Born: Worcester, MA

Currently lives: Boston, MA

Title of artwork: “Surf’s Up”

What’s it about? I made a bunch of abstract watercolor and ink pieces a couple of years ago and this was one of them. I loved the opportunity to work with color combinations I wouldn’t normally use.

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area? I love the mural next to the BU Bridge (on the BU Academy building)

Who is your favorite Boston-area artist to follow? @streetscapecurator is fun for New England building inspiration

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off? An early morning run on the Esplanade then wander the Boston Public Library in Copley

What was your top song for 2023? Everywhere – Fleetwood Mac

Favorite place for food in the Allston/Brighton area? Zaftig’s in Coolidge Corner

What have you learned about your creative practice in recent years? I work on everything from house portraits to watercolor abstracts to food illustrations, and I used to worry that not having a cohesive “theme” in my work was a disadvantage. But I’ve realized that it’s something I should embrace!

What is a piece of advice you would give to your past self as a young artist? Lines don’t have to be perfectly straight

What is your dream project to work on? Contributing to Yankee magazine would be really cool! Growing up, we always had multiple issues around the house.
