IAN TARTASKY

Born with Legos in his hands and raised by science fiction, Ian Tartasky spent his youth plotting ridiculous inventions and imagining alternate universes within parallel timelines. Driven by his creative pursuits he earned an Associates and a Bachelors degree in illustration with a strong inclination towards stencils, graphic design, systems, and organization. After his formal education Ian kept his lust for learning aflame by doing freelance design work, exhibiting paintings, and dabbling in street art and graffiti. He now spends his workday plugged in, coding, and drinking tea and his nights painting and pondering. Armed with his obsession for the paranormal, fascination with the macabre, and his knowledge of subcultures, he is able to combine his diverse skills, multiple artistic personalities, and slightly insane interests into a mutatious artistic style that is often challenging but still original and refreshing.

ARTIST Q&A

Born: St. Petersburg, FL
Currently lives: Allston/Brighton, MA

Title of artwork: Rosa Venenum

What’s it about? Flowers always seem so delicate but they are built from years and years of complex structural evolution. They make it look so easy, on the surface. Painting flowers always brings me resolution when I’m lonely.

Where else can we find your work? On surfaces inside & outside across New England – street posts to gallery walls to newsfeeds.

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area?
I love cruising down Western, there’s so many great pieces along there. But I’m also into the golden elephant in Harvard Square. I love seeing the piece on the greenway change from artist to artist. Hopefully in the future Boston will embrace public art and we’ll see more and more murals.

What would your last meal be? Neapolitan ice cream sundae, on top of waffles, with hot fudge, and a little candle on top.

Go-to karaoke song? Army of Me – Bjork

Favorite place for a drink in Allston? The Sil

Top fall bucket list item? There’s really nothing like sinking my teeth into some warm apple pie.
