EMILY AUCHINCLOSS

Emily Auchincloss is a painter who has turned to weaving and textile-based practices. Trained as an artist and art historian, Auchincloss exploits form, symbol, and flatness to playfully amplify the complexities of each. Her intimately-sized weavings are tight combinations of color, shape, and texture that seduce us in detail. Auchincloss is an educator as well as an artist, and a direct artistic descendant of Anni Albers in her approach to both teaching and aesthetics. Born and raised in New York City, Auchincloss received her MFA and a Master’s in Art History from Pratt Institute. Her paintings and weavings have been exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently in A Wild Note of Longing: On Albert Pinkham Ryder and His Influence at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
