CAYTLIN UNHOCH

Caytlin Unhoch is fascinated by everything. She graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design from MassArt in the Spring of 2020. She draws inspiration from nostalgia, cool alcohol labels, anything that glows in the dark and music from her super niche Spotify playlists. The amount of boards she has on Pinterest is record-breaking, and she’s always singing at least one of the songs stuck in her head. She enjoys texture, funky type, and point and shoot photography. She probably has leaves in her hair from tending to her jungle of plants.

ARTIST Q&A

Born: Harwinton, CT

Currently lives: Brighton, MA

Title of artwork: Fortune Favors the Kind

What’s it about? Being stuck inside during the height of the pandemic made everyone, along with myself do a little bit of introspection; reminiscing on the past. With this piece I was giving past self a bit of advice that I think she wishes she heard back then. I also really love fortune cookies, I think they’re yummy and I love to find joy in the little things. I wanted to pair the light-heartedness of opening a fortune cookie and learning it’s wisdom with some words I think a lot of people would benefit to hear.

Where else can we find your work? All over the internet, in my etsy shop and maybe blowing around in the wind.

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area?

The sunsets that I get to see all around the greater Boston area. The amount of photos that I have of all the different skylines is higher than I can count.

Who is your favorite Boston-area artist to follow? @abby_wollette. I admire the amount of authenticity she can pack into each and every piece she makes. Her and I went to college together and I resonate so much with her exploration of girlhood and her nostalgic, tactile style. Abby is a constant inspiration to me, and I can’t wait to see he continue to grow 🙂

What would your last meal be? Breakfast for dinner; without a doubt. Over-easy eggs with buttered wheat toast, blueberry banana pancakes, sausage and these blackberry brie turnovers I made for my birthday last year. Oh, and a mimosa.

If it was your turn to host book club, which title would you choose? Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket.

Favorite place in Allston/Brighton for takeout?
That’s so hard since there’s just SO MUCH food in Allston/Brighton, but I think I’m going to have to say Coreanos. Their kimchi fried rice goes nuts

What have you learned about your creative practice in recent years? That a lot of the time it really just is practice that makes you better. I also learned that I have so many ideas for art that I want to make, and the leave as quickly as they come, so I have the world’s longest note on my phone of every thought I have, until I get around to making it.
