Jamal Thorne is a Boston based artist who is known for his use of the drawing medium to investigate and visualize the nature of performed identity. With massive drawings, Jamal blends references from popular culture, religious iconography, and symbolism in an attempt to create a possible image of what our multilayered identities could look like as a result of over consumption.

What’s it about? I am terrible with names and I have been for as long as I can remember. For that reason, all of my newer collages only have numbers. At any rate, the piece unfolded at a time when I was experimenting with “weaving” imagery into layers of discarded materials and tape. I didn’t think too deeply about the imagery I was using, so I used images that I liked. The most important image is the cover from the first “Run The Jewels” Album. The rest is just hands

Where have you been finding inspiration as an artist lately? Looking at the news and finding suitable outlets to channel my anger
