MATT PAUL
Matt Paul is a Boston based, self taught artist/family man/grocer specializing in lettering. He’s inspired by traditional sign painting, neon signs and rock n’ roll. Ultimately his aim is to make art that doesn’t take itself too seriously, hopefully causing the viewer to crack a smile or at least roll their eyes.

Title of artwork: Everything is Fine
What’s it about? Over this year it has been therapeutic to spend nights working out the stresses of the day through art. This piece came about that way. I’m happy for it to be taken as a mantra or ironically, like that one meme with the dog and the flames, you know the one.
Where else can we find your work? I have an online shop called ‘Nowheresville’ with stickers, pins and keychains. You can also find my sign making work at the Allston Trader Joe’s location.
Favorite holiday tradition? Making more holiday cookies than I have time or room for and sharing them with friends and family but always keeping the best looking ones for myself.
One new thing or practice that has been bringing you joy during COVID-19? I’ve been home with my daughters more due to the pandemic and we’ve taken to having early morning dance parties where they pick out records to play. The Breeders, Blondie and The Jam have been on heavy rotation.
Where is your favorite public art piece in the area? Literally anything Best Dressed Signs have done around town. Their mural in JP at the corner of Centre and Kingsboro Park is unbelievable.
What would your last meal be? A Farmer’s Lunch sandwich from City Feed, a Compost Cookie from Milk Bar and a Negroni made by my bud Cam
Go-to karaoke song? I’ve never done karaoke! I have a pact with a friend to do it with a friend when I turn 40, so ask me then!
Title / Author you would choose if it was your turn to host Book Club? I’ve been on a big Stephen King kick, as if 2020 hasn’t been wild enough! He has a more recent book called “Joyland” that was wicked fun.
