ARTIST Q&A

Born: Princeton, NJ

Currently lives: Boston, MA

Title of artwork: Clover Honey Summer

What’s it about? This collage is about the long, lazy days of summer, the smell of grass and clover in the air, and time to do nothing and everything. It includes a few of my summertime memories – sitting at the top of the street where I grew up and watching the streetlight flicker on and off with no particular pattern, and picking clovers to knot into flower chains.

Where else can we find your work? on Instagram @marigoldss, and on a utility box I painted at 149 Harrison Ave in Boston 🙂

Where is your favorite public art piece in the area?I love the mural “Where We Belong” by Ponnapa Prakkamakul in Chinatown

Who is your favorite Boston-area artist to follow? I’m a huge fan of everything that Lily Xie (@lolysoups) makes! Excited to see what she creates as one of Boston’s artists-in-residence this year

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off? I love making a nice breakfast to start the day, reading / drawing / journaling in a park, and spending time with friends 🙂

What was your top song for 2021? Paradise…How Far by The Chairs

Favorite food spot in in Allston, Brighton or the surrounding area? I would eat at Spring Shabu Shabu for every meal if I could.

What have you learned about your creative practice in recent years? I’m learning that ideas can sometimes take a while to incubate, so I’m trying to be more patient in my creative practice and allow myself to come back to an idea months later if I need more time to develop it.

What is a piece of advice you would give to your past self as a young artist? I would tell my past self to keep making art about all the things you’re interested in, even if they seem unrelated, because one day it’ll click and you’ll see the connections between them. Everyone who said it takes time to find your art style/voice was right, and I still feel like mine is evolving all the time.

What is your dream project to work on? I would love to do a large-scale mural or a book cover!
